About Blending with Arts

Creativity should be for everyone

We’re a social initiative on a mission to empower emerging artists and open up arts, culture and digital skills to the communities too often left out.

Who we are

Blending with Arts (BWA) is a social initiative that uses immersive technology — augmented reality, virtual reality and artificial intelligence — to democratise access to arts, culture and digital skills within the African diaspora community and beyond. We began beyond the gallery walls, connecting emerging artists with the audiences they deserve, and we’ve grown into something bigger: a bridge between culture and technology, and between talented people and the opportunities that let them thrive.

Our mission

We exist to transform the narrative — from ‘starving artist’ to ‘striving artist’. We believe artistic talent should thrive unburdened by financial barriers, and that the tools of the future — including AI — should belong to everyone, not just a technical few. So we blend the two: culture that roots people in who they are, and technology that opens up who they can become.

Our story

BWA started organically, as a platform giving emerging artists a place to be seen. Our 2024–2025 collaboration with The Africa Centre became a proof of concept — a ‘very powerful initiative’ that blended arts and technology to spark children’s curiosity, reached 80% new visitors, and raised community donations with no marketing budget. That success became our ‘Culture + Code’ initiative and the launch of the Ushirika Tech Lab. Today we’re on a deliberate journey from organic project to established social initiative and, in time, a charitable group — earning each step through demonstrated community impact rather than assuming it.

How we work: two pillars

Immersive Arts (Culture + Code). We bring heritage and emerging artists to life through AR, VR and AI — making paintings speak and letting people step inside artworks — with experiences designed to include even ‘low-tech and no-tech’ art lovers.

Ushirika Tech Lab. Our no-code AI-literacy programme moves people from watching to building, in four steps: understand it, use it with ethics, develop real skills, and give back to the community. No technical background required.

Our model: zero-cost for artists

For the artists we exist to serve, our model is simple: no exhibition fees, and no commission on sales. Artists whose work sells are invited to make a voluntary contribution — entirely at their discretion. We sustain this by delivering paid programmes to partners who share our values: galleries, schools and youth services, health services and employers. Their investment funds the platform, the bursaries and the Tech Lab — so social value created for a partner is, by design, the same act as widening access for the community.

Who we serve

Artists — a zero-cost platform, immersive showcases, mentoring and digital skills.
Galleries — a pipeline of emerging diaspora talent, immersive partnerships and new audiences.
Youth & education — programmes that build aspiration, skills and belonging.
Health & wellbeing — culturally-responsive creative wellbeing on social-prescribing pathways.
Corporates — immersive team experiences and CSR partnerships with measurable social value.

Our values

Artist empowerment — we back talent and remove the barriers in its way.
Accessibility — for creators and audiences alike, whatever their background or budget.
Cultural rootedness — heritage is our starting point, not an afterthought.
Transparency & integrity — in how we operate, sell and share.
Community & collaboration — we build with people, not for them.
Artistic freedom — space for genuine expression.
